A message from Mr. Clark, Principal of Walker Freshman:
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well!
First, I want to make you aware on Monday March 30 and Thursday April 2nd the Three O’Clock Project in conjunction with Mighty Moms will be distributing free drive thru meals for children. The closest locations for our students are Slinging Iron which is roughly at the corner of Fla Blvd and Hwy 449 at 9:45 AM and a site closer to our freshman campus at the corner of Wildcat Drive and Stump St at 10:25 AM. I unfortunately do not have any information as to the duration the trucks will be at each location.
I also want to make you aware we will be providing another window for hard copy packet pickup on campus from 8:00 to 12:00 on Monday and Tuesday March 30th and 31st. This is an opportunity for those who may not have been able to pick up packets earlier to do so. There will NOT be any NEW information included in the packets so, there is no need to return to campus if you have already picked up a packet. I would also encourage you, if possible, to check teacher websites and Remind codes under the “Teacher Websites” and Covid 19 links on our school’s homepage as well as follow us and the district on our social media feeds and websites.
Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of the deadline for enrolling in the Emergency Meals to Go program. The online registration process for parents began yesterday and will end at midnight on Monday, March 30. The online application will be posted on Livingston Parish’s social media feeds and website, as well as our own. This service will provide 10 shelf stable breakfasts and lunches every other week, with shipments likely occurring within 2 to 3 days after the close of enrollment. According to Mr. Parrill’s messenger call yesterday this service is available regardless of income but, you must register prior to the deadline.

Livingston Parish Public Schools Superintendent Joe Murphy announced today he is shutting down all operations for the school district, effective immediately (March 22 ), in response to the governor’s call for a statewide stay-at-home order that will be effective until April 12.
Murphy said all school facilities will be closed effective immediately, and no employees are to report to work, unless notified by the superintendent.
“Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of all our students, faculty and staff. We know this is an unprecedented response to a very serious threat, and we are cooperating fully with the governor’s “Stay- At-Home Order,” Murphy said.
The district will suspend free meal service to parish children. While we are truly disheartened by the suspension of services at this time, we also have a responsibility to keep the citizens of our parish and our employees safe during this crisis. If further guidance and clarification is given regarding meal service which allows for the continuation, we will resume our meal program.
Murphy said all delivery and pickup of school packets will also cease at this time, however all digital instruction will continue.
“I remain confident, that as we work together and cooperate with our leadership, we will overcome the circumstances that confront us,” Murphy said. “I want to encourage our school community to remain patient and understanding, and to be in prayer for one other during this time.”

It is difficult, if not impossible, to truly replace the direct interactions that occur between a student and a teacher. We are doing our best however, to provide meaningful, engaging work to hopefully minimize the learning loss that may occur during this very unique situation.
Assignments are now available! Please have your student periodically check their student email as teachers with digital classrooms will be pushing out information soon, also have your student check teacher websites. Teachers should have assignments listed there as a reference.
Several of our teachers will also use other media, such as Remind, to distribute information as well.
If you or your student lack internet connectivity, we will also have hard copy packets available at school. We have attempted to provide approximately 4 weeks work in this initial push to reduce the number of trips persons requiring hard copies would require.
Also, if your student paid for the FCA field trip through Online School Payments, your payment has been refunded to you; if your student paid with cash or check, your refund is in the mail.
